Mr. Ignacio ZOZAYA is the Head of the Business Management Office of the ETIAS Central Unit at the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX). He has been involved in this project since its very first steps, contributing to the set up of the structure, the development of the legal acts, and designing the high-level architecture and processes for the ETIAS Central Unit.
Prior to taking over ETIAS responsibilities, he led capacity building projects in border checks. His areas of expertise in this domain involve Traveler Targeting, Risk-based Facilitation, Operational Research, and Digital Identities.
Before joining Frontex in 2010, he worked for The Boeing Company managing different programs in Homeland Security and Air Traffic Management. He also held different positions at Indra Aerospace, Vodafone, and the Bell Labs.
He holds a MSc in Telecommunications Engineering (Universidad del Pais Vasco), an MBA (IESE) and a Certificate on Strategic Decision Making and Risk Management (Stanford).
Other areas of professional interest include trade-off analysis in complex systems, and breakthrough traveler facilitation solutions. In his free time, he enjoys motorbiking and designing electronic circuits based on vintage vacuum tubes.
