Christopher Bramwell was appointed by Governor Spencer Cox in 2021 to serve as Utah’s first Chief Privacy Officer. In this role, he directs the Utah Office of Data Privacy and leads statewide efforts to modernize privacy and data governance. He played a key role in overseeing the creation and implementation of the Government Data Privacy Act and Utah’s State Endorsed Digital Identity (SEDI) legislation, the first policy-driven approach in the nation to establish state-backed, verifiable identity for and controlled by individuals. His work includes building standardized data governance models, advancing privacy awareness and training programs, and shaping legislative strategies to address digital identity, data governance, and high-risk data processing activities.
