Carolyn Bayer-Broring is a Senior Forensic Document Examiner with the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Forensic Laboratory in McLean, Virginia (USA), specializing in the examination of international travel and identity documents. She started her Federal Government career in 1997, working with the Department of Veteran Affairs Office of Inspector General, and joined HSI (formerly US Immigration & Naturalization Service) in 2001. She has testified as an expert witness, has spoken at numerous conferences, and has provided instruction to forensic examiners, law enforcement, and border control agents in both international and domestic settings. Carolyn holds a Masters’ degree in Forensic Science from The George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology & criminal justice from Trinity University. She is a diplomate of The American Board of Forensic Document Examiners, a Fellow of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, and served for many years on the board of the Document Security Alliance.
