Jon is a Qualified MIET Electrical Specialist currently working at NAPIT, one of the leading Government approved and UKAS accredited membership scheme operators, and is passionate about raising standards and helping those on the front line of the industry through the sharing and development of knowledge. Jon has over twenty years of experience in the electrical industry across design and installation, inspection and testing and latterly teaching and assessment. Originally joining NAPIT as a field officer: for the last two years Jon has been assessing member compliance under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) and the Electrical Competent Person Scheme (CPS/EAS). Now working within the technical commercial team at NAPIT Jon’s role is to provide its members and the wider industry with up to date and quality technical information through seminar talks, technical articles, publications and webinars alongside representing the organisation at external committees.

This panel will explore the potential for simple, accessible solar systems to lower barriers to adoption, while examining the safety, consumer protection and technical challenges that come with a rapidly emerging market.

Could plug-in solar bring renewable energy within reach of millions more households, including renters and those without suitable rooftops?
What safeguards, standards and installer guidance are needed to ensure systems are used safely and responsibly?
What can the UK learn from European markets where plug-in and balcony solar are already more established?
