Carmel McGee, Advanced Skills Teacher, Riverside Primary School

Carmel McGee is an experienced Advanced Skills Teacher and school leader at Riverside Primary in Tasmania. She is passionate about designing learning that grows students’ capacity to think critically, act creatively, and contribute meaningfully - capabilities that matter more than ever in a rapidly changing world. With a deep belief in the potential of young people, Carmel focuses on learning that is purposeful, challenging, and human-centred. Her recent international study through the Hardie Fellowship explored how schools can cultivate cultures of thinking, agency, and engagement, while also supporting the growth of teachers as designers and learners themselves. At EDUtech 2026, Carmel will share practical strategies for designing learning environments that nurture the human capabilities students need to navigate a fast-changing world - like critical thinking, creativity, and collaborative problem-solving. With a focus on what’s possible within the realities of today’s classrooms, she’ll explore how educators can create space for student voice, support deeper thinking across disciplines, and build the kind of learning experiences that help both students and teachers stay curious, capable, and connected.
