Jorge Gascon earned his MSc in Chemistry (2002) and PhD in Chemical Engineering (2006) from the University of Zaragoza, Spain. He then joined TU Delft, where he served in successive roles—Postdoctoral Researcher (2006–2009), Assistant Professor (2010–2012), Associate Professor (2012–2014), and Full Professor (2014–2017). In 2017, he moved to King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) as Professor of Chemical Engineering and Director of the KAUST Catalysis Center, a role he held until 2024. Between 2021 and 2024, he also led KAUST’s Circular Carbon Initiative. In 2025 he was appointed Ibn Alhaytham Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at the same institution.
Gascon’s research lies at the intersection of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, with a strong emphasis on the development of advanced heterogeneous catalysts and innovative reactor technologies. His work targets sustainable solutions for chemical production, energy carriers, and environmental applications. He has published over 400 peer-reviewed papers, accumulating more than 45,000 citations, and has been recognized as a Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher for seven consecutive years. Among his accolades are the prestigious ExxonMobil Chemical European Science and Engineering Award and an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Alicante.
