Dr. Nashat Nafouri, Executive Officer & Healthcare Interest Group Chair, Saudi Quality Council

Dr. Nafouri is an advocate in Total Quality Management, Excellence Models, Strategic Planning, Healthcare Governance, Performance Management, Leadership Coaching and Mentoring, Excellence & Safety Cultures, Infections Prevention and Occupational and Environmental Health and Clinical Laboratories Accreditations with over 25 years of experience, tangible achievements and proven track records.
He serves on the Saudi Quality Council (SQC) Board as an Executive Officer and Chairman of the Healthcare Interest Group (HIG). The group that put the foundation of quality in healthcare institutions since established in 2003 and made remarkable milestones in advancing quality culture in the health community at national and regional levels and just held its 20th annual meeting in 2024.
He currently serves as Organizational Excellence and Quality Consultant at the Security Forces Hospital, Makkah which resulted in achieving the silver level of the prestigious King Abdulaziz Quality Award in its 7th cycle, 2024 and he is helping the leadership in crafting the 4th strategic plan 2026-2028including the strategic analysis, strategic goals and objectives, strategic KPIs, operational execution plans, operational KPIs, and departmental heatmaps.  
He also served as Organizational Excellence and Quality Consultant at King Salman Medical City and Madinah health cluster to lead the city’s effort toward King Abdulaziz Quality Award and Joint Commission International accreditation.  
Nashat is engaged as ISO series trainer in SASO project for improving quality management in Saudi’s manufacturing factories in line with KSA 2030 vision toward internationalization of Saudi products.
He is currently becoming a registered Associat Consultant with British Standards Institute (BSI) for many ISO series including ISO 9001, 14001, 22000,  and 31000.
In 2024, Nashat made an affiliation with Sterling International, USA to introduce the Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award platform in KSA.
He served as subject matter expert in the 1st health cluster in Riyadh region and conducted many improvement projects and delivered leadership workshops.
Nashat led FutureLab company in his capacity as COO and Medical and Quality Chief, and succeeded to make 10 laboratories accredited by CBAHI in less than a year and conducted the 1st successful virtual CAP inspection in the laboratories private sector.
His efforts in assisting the Nahdi Care to establish quality culture and to be the first in the kingdom to achieve two healthcare accreditations, CBAHI and ACHSI, in ambulatory care in 2023 were recognized by their leadership.  
He gained the trust of the Public Health Authority (PHA) leadership and became a part time consultant and advisor setting on many vital and strategic committees to shape the promising future of public health in the Kingdom with PHA leaders toward the KSA 2030 vision. He served as team leader for inspecting laboratories toward obtaining COVID-19 testing license.  
He was appointed as a Consultant by the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) to assess the health sector readiness based on King Abdulaziz Quality Award Standards as foundation to structure the 2025 -2030 National Quality Strategy.
To pave the road for the excellence culture, Nashat had led many assessment teams in Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance, Taif Excellence Award and King Abdulaziz Quality Award since 2007 where many authorities and organizations had won the awards and benefited from his and his team feedback reports.  
Nashat’s expertise in crafting and revising quality of care standards and operating procedures (SOPs) were recognized by joining the Australian Accreditation Standards development Committee as international member which materialized by publishing the seventh addition of Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP7) for hospital and primary care standards in 2020.
His quality networking was recognized by many accrediting bodies since 2002 either by commending his efforts such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for spreading quality culture in medical laboratories kingdom wide or by appointing him as regional advisor/partner on different types of healthcare accreditations including, Joint Commission International (JCI), Accreditation Canada and the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS), international.
He has many professional affiliations to advance clinical laboratories quality in the region by being the ambassador of the Program Office for Laboratory Quality Management (POLQM) of the University of British Columbia, Canada, where many quality professionals were recommended by him, graduated and leading quality in their organizations now.
Nashat in his capacity as regional representative keeps on promoting prominent non-for-profit standards organization including the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), USA and formerly the Clinical Laboratory Management Association (CLMA), USA.
Dr. Nafouri had an academic fingerprint as former lecturer in the Community Medicine Saudi Fellowship Board, part-time faculty member at the American University of Cairo for the Infection Prevention & Control and Quality Management courses and former faculty member at King Saud Bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences, Ministry of National Guard.  He has many publications, instrumental research and workshops that are searchable on the internet in the fields of his expertise.
Nashat is the founder of the Seeding Knowledge Conference series. He is an Advisory Board member of the Middle East Quality and Patient Safety Conference Series since 2012 and the Scientific Chair of the Quality Management and Lab Quality Management Conferences in the Saudi Global Health Congress since 2018 -2023. He is the scientific chair of the lab Quality Management conference track in MedLab since 2024 and the Co-founder of GCC Lab Leaders Breakfast Round Table session in MedLab 2025. He
He is registered Excellence Team Leader Assessor in King Abdulaziz Quality Award (KAQA) and participated as Team leaders in many cycles. In addition, he contributed in modifying many KAQA standards and its assessment tools. Nashat is registered and his professional efforts were appreciated from Taif Government Excellence Award, Abu Dhabi Government Excellence Award, King Abdullah Quality Award, Dubai Quality Award, and Subbai Charity Award. His recent contribution was as team leader in the 7th KAQA cycle in 2024. He is registered inspector with the Collage of American Pathologists, and assessor with the American Association of Blood Banks (aaBB), USA since 2002. In 2007, Nashat received the formal training on the EFQM model which is the foundation of Abu Dhabi Government Excellence Award to conduct assessment for 13 governmental entities.  
He achieved the 1st CAP accreditation with distinction in 2004 for King Abdulaziz Medical City, Ministry of National Guard and led the nomination of 85 national candidates to become CAP inspectors and set the foundation of quality in medical laboratory kingdom wide which is recognized by the regional CAP commissioner.      
He led many chapters and was Quality Observer towards the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JIC) at King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) –Jeddah, Health Affairs, and Ministry of National Guard from 2004 – 2019 with successful achievements of being accredited in every cycle.  He served as Co-leader of Prevention and Control of Infection chapter as well, and established the hospital Safety, Occupational and Environmental Health programs. He co-chaired the Emergency Preparedness Committee and the Regional Safety Committee where he contributed to overcome the crisis of 2009 Jeddah flooding and established the risks vulnerability analysis program. He participated and commissioned more than 20 strategic and expansion projects at KAMC-Jeddah including the trauma and neuroscience center, King Abdullah children hospital, King Faisl cardiology center, princess Nora oncology center, OR-1 expansion, burn unit, ICU expansion, ambulatory care center, diabetes and rehabilitation center, CSSD, blood bank, toxicology center, dental clinics and the central laboratory.
In 2019, Dr. Nafouri has been recognized as quality giant by Professor Mohammad Zairi, the head of the European Center for Best Practice Management for his valuable contribution, dedication, and commitment to promote quality on a sustainable basis in an unrelentless manner for 25 years. He is the 2015 Quality Leadership Award winner endorsed by the World Quality Congress and Awards and Asian Confederation of Business. Nashat’s professional career and milestone achievements were recognized and published in The Arab Icons and The Saudi Lens Magazines in 2025. Nashat is very active member on LinkedIn.
Nashat earned his B.Sc. in Medical Technology from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences at King Abdulaziz University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1991 then completed his post graduate Diploma in Biotechnology from British Columbia Institute of Technology, Vancouver, Canada in 1998 and finally achieved his Ph.D. in Business Administration with Healthcare Quality Management focus from the International Washington University, USA in 2005.
