Martine Hoosen, The Bookkeeper’s Academy
Martine Hoosen is a multi-award-winning bookkeeper and mentor, and a leading industry advocate who recently sold her bookkeeping practice of 25 years.
Martine built her bookkeeping business from the ground up, initially as a solo bookkeeper driven by the need for flexibility, stability, and a business model that supported her needs as a single mum.
As Martine’s business and family evolved, so did her vision. She developed a strong strategic framework and built the team, systems, and processes that allowed her to scale her business into a seven-figure firm.
In 2025, Martine successfully sold her practice for a seven-figure sum - an achievement she is most proud of because it validates the systems, structure, and decisions built steadily over decades.
Today, Martine’s focus is firmly on giving back and advocating for the profession.
In 2000, Martine launched The Bookkeeper’s Academy, where she mentors and supports bookkeepers as they build profitable, scalable and successful businesses. Here, she shares the practical tools, systems, pricing frameworks and real-world processes she used in her own firm, alongside honest guidance, support, and a strong community.
Martine is a regular speaker and panellist at industry events and conferences, where she shares practical, real-world insights on pricing, systemisation, leadership, and building bookkeeping businesses with strong foundations. She is passionate about elevating the profession, challenging outdated perceptions, and helping bookkeepers see what is possible when their businesses are built with intention and care.
Throughout her career, Martine has worked closely with SMEs, national franchise brands, and government agencies to deliver bookkeeping, payroll, advisory, digital transformation, and financial literacy programs. She has been recognised with multiple industry awards for both practice excellence and her contribution to the bookkeeping profession, and is a Xero Partner Advisory Committee Member and an Institute of Certified Bookkeepers Fellow Member.
Martine’s work is grounded in lived experience, shaped by lessons learned, mistakes made and successes earned over many years in practice. She’s a firm believer that everyone has a unique version of what success means to them, and she is committed to helping others create businesses that support their life, not rule it.
Martine’s mission is simple - to elevate the bookkeeping profession and help bookkeepers build businesses that truly work for them, at every stage of their life and business.
