Martine Hoosen began her bookkeeping business Bookwiz, back in 2000 as a single mum with a vision to build something of her own. Over the past 25 years, she’s turned that vision into an award-winning, thriving practice that supports a wide range of clients — from small business owners to government agencies to national franchise brands. Along the way, Martine has delivered far more than just day-to-day bookkeeping. She and her team have worked closely with clients on digital transformation, implementing better systems and technology, delivering financial literacy education, and stepping into an advisory role to help businesses make informed, confident decisions. She’s known for her practical approach, deep industry knowledge, and commitment to staying progressive in an ever-changing landscape. Martine’s contribution to the profession has been widely recognised. She’s been named one of the Top 50 Women in Accounting globally, is a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, and has received multiple national accolades including, the Australian Accounting Awards Bookkeeping Firm of the Year and Bookkeeper of the Year. She is an ICB LUCA Award winner, including Bookkeeping Firm of the Year (5+ staff) as well as the LUCA Award for Service to Bookkeeping. Most recently, she was selected to join XPAC, Xero’s advisory council for accounting and bookkeeping professionals. As her business evolved, so did her purpose. In 2020, she founded The Bookkeeper’s Academy — a mentoring and learning community designed to help other bookkeepers grow strong, profitable businesses. The Academy is built on everything Martine wished she had when starting out - clear systems, pricing strategies, templates, resources, and a supportive community that genuinely understands the journey. Martine is passionate about giving back to the profession that’s given her so much. She now dedicates her time to mentoring others, sharing the insights, tools, and lessons she’s learned, and helping bookkeepers step into their value and create thriving, sustainable businesses.
