Stephanie Monticelli, Ph.D., MPH, is a Research Scientist and Principal Investigator at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID), representing the Henry M. Jackson Foundation. A specialist in viral immunology, Dr. Monticelli’s current research focuses on the development of innovative monoclonal antibody therapeutics and vaccine candidates targeting emerging viruses of critical importance to global health and the Department of Defense. Her multidisciplinary background spans basic virology, clinical product development, and international public health, providing her with a unique perspective on the pipeline from laboratory discovery to field implementation.
Prior to her current role, Dr. Monticelli completed her doctoral studies at the University of Rochester, where she investigated the role of poxvirus extracellular virion-specific glycoproteins in infectivity and pathogenesis. In addition to her laboratory research, she earned an MPH through an award-winning collaboration with the international non-profit Humans for Education, evaluating the efficacy of school-based interventions in Kenya. With prior experience in the private sector at a Contract Research Organization focused on pharmaceutical development, Dr. Monticelli brings a comprehensive understanding of both academic and industry standards to the advancement of medical countermeasures against viral threats.
