Jak Matthews, Diversity Equity and Inclusion Professional, BT

Jak is an experienced professional in the field of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, serving as the Deputy Co-Chair of the BT Pride Network, an award winning LGBTQIA+ employee network. With an extensive background in HR and programme management within the financial services and telecommunication/technology sectors, Jak advocates for authentic action as the cornerstone of inclusion efforts. One of Jak's notable contributions includes revamping the organisation's transition guidance for colleagues and managers. Additionally, she has conducted educational sessions focused on identifying and understanding workplace dog whistles. Furthermore, Jak has played a pivotal role in establishing a secure and supportive environment for trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming colleagues to gather regularly. As if Jak's schedule isn't packed enough, she also manages to find time to volunteer with Birmingham Pride, Diversity Role Models and she is a mentor in the Fast Futures program. Being actively engaged in all aspects of diversity, Jak frequently speaks at various events and participates in podcasts discussing LGBTQIA+ inclusion in business, trans issues, and diversity and inclusion. On the occasion she's not busy, Jak loves collecting books (her collection is seriously massive – over 500 books and counting). She's also a fan of playing tabletop role-playing games, like Dungeons & Dragons. Because nothing says "I'm a serious diversity warrior" like rolling some dice and pretending to be a mythical creature.
