Amajit Gupta, Group CEO & MD, Lightstorm

Amajit Gupta is an industry veteran with more than three decades of rich experience. He has built a stalwart career having worked in senior management capacity at several prominent multinational companies in the IT and telecom industry.

He is a passionate believer in the role of technology in uplifting lives and its particular impact in emerging economies in the South Asia and South East Asia region. In line with this belief, he Co- Founded Lightstorm in 2020; a company that endeavours to propel growth in these countries by building a state-of-the-art utility-grade fiber network for enterprises called SmartNet. Amajit is credited with incubating and executing the strategic mission and vision of the company. He sits on the board of all Lightstorm entities across Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

Before taking the plunge with Lightstorm in the middle of the pandemic, Amajit headed the India operations of Juniper Networks, a Silicon Valley-based networking technology global leader. He has also accomplished glorious stints at global companies such as Microsoft India, Alcatel Lucent (now Nokia), Motorola and the Tata Group.

A visionary, Amajit is known to have seeded the 'hosting' business in Microsoft India, which has now become the ubiquitous ‘cloud'. While at Motorola, he managed the program to build India's first-ever pioneering mobile network services in Kolkata in the mid-1990s. He started his professional journey with the Tata Group company during the pre-personal computer i.e., the mainframe era.

Amajit is widely recognized as a thought leader and has been involved in several policy and technology advocacy by industry and government forums. He is also actively sought out by media across the Asia Pacific region. Amajit was also nominated as one of India’s Top 10 IT and Telecom Technologist by Hindustan Times and Haryana state government in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

He holds an Electronics Engineering degree from Nagpur-based Regional Engineering College (now VNIIT). Additionally, he has successfully completed advanced management training from XLRI and Cornell University.

When he is not engrossed in solving real challenges with disruptive solutions,Amajit likes to work with young entrepreneurs and dynamic start-ups. Being passionate about mentoring start-ups to survive and thrive in today’s cut-throat competition, he is an early-stage mentor and angel investor for new- age companies in emerging technology areas such as cybersecurity and wireless analytics.
