Cynthia Mehboob, PhD Scholar, International Relations, Australian National University

  Cynthia Mehboob is a doctoral scholar at the Australian National University, where she studies the techno-security politics of undersea cable networks in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. Her research is informed by multi-year fieldwork and interviews with industry professionals across Southeast Asia, Australia, the Pacific, and Europe. In addition to her academic work, Cynthia regularly contributes to public and policy discussions on digital infrastructure, with a particular focus on the strategic and economic significance of submarine cables for international security. She is a member of the Women in International Security–Australia network and a 2024–2025 fellow of the Women in the U.S.–Australia Alliance initiative.
