Having worked for over 30 years at Tameside Council, Greater Manchester, in many roles mainly related to IT but also as Assistant Chief Executive, I have a wide breadth of knowledge and experience of working within the public sector. In 2018 I worked with other public and private sector partners to setup the Cooperative Network Infrastructure Ltd (CNI), the first digital infrastructure cooperative of its kind in the UK. CNI exists to provide its members with simple neutral access to passive digital assets such as ducting, dark fibre and data centre rack space, owned by multiple public and private sector organisations, so that they can sell services to business and residents. CNI now has networks covering Tameside, Blackpool, Lancaster, Morecombe and East Sussex, with new networks currently being built in Preston and Manchester City Centre. CNI is not for profit Cooperative that trades only with its 50+ members.
