Saba Esnaashari, Data Scientist, AI for Public Services, The Alan Turing Institute

I am a Data Scientist in the AI for Public Services team, within the public policy program at the Alan Turing Institute. I have academic education both in Artificial Intelligence and Economics. Before joining the team, I completed a master’s degree in economics at UCL, following my bachelor and first master’s degree in computer science. At the Turing, I am supporting research to integrate artificial intelligence and machine learning into public decision- making. I have had the opportunity to work on several projects at the Alan Turing Institute in collaboration with different government departments. In an ongoing collaboration with DFT, I am participating in building a tool to help civil servants analyze responses to consultation questions using large language models. This tool can lower the burden on civil servants and even increase the precision and chance of capturing everyone’s voice through consultations. In another ongoing project, we are working with the LEGO group for understanding the impacts of generative AI use on children and conveying the findings to policy makers. In another collaboration with the General Medical Council, I was part of a project to design and analyze a survey to understand the perception of doctors about the integration of AI in healthcare. Before that, I explored using algorithms to enhance the prioritization process for allocating scarce social resources and early predictions of families in trouble in a collaboration with London Borough of Camden.
