Jordan Sun, Chief Innovation Officer, City of San Jose

Jordan Sun is the Chief Innovation Officer for the city of San Jose.  Jordan brings deep, cross-sector global experience in startups/venture, technology, government, and healthcare.  Prior to San Jose, Jordan was deployed to Afghanistan as the Chief Operating Officer for the Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan Technology Team.  He holds the rank of Major as a reservist supporting the Army’s technology modernization efforts and was previously with In-Q-Tel’s Investments Team.  Before deploying, Jordan was the Director of Venture Development at Siemens Healthineers, where he led a digital health spinout venture as CEO.  He also held various commercial leadership roles in both growth stage startup and public medical technology companies based in the Bay Area and Asia.  Jordan started his career at a Japanese investment bank in New York and then served as a U.S. Diplomat with an overseas tour in Taiwan.  He was also assigned to Japan as an Army Foreign Affairs Officer and is a two-time volunteer of the war in Afghanistan. He is an alum of NYU and Yale University School of Management and serves as an active mentor in the startup ecosystem, including with First Round Capital’s Fast Track Program, the Berkeley Skydeck Fund, UCSF Innovation Ventures, and Scrum Ventures SmartCityX.
