Zoë Barry is an award winning cellist, composer, theatre maker and educator. Originally trained in ethnomusicology and cello performance, her teaching career has spanned 25 years across public and private schools, primary, secondary and tertiary, as an instrumental teacher, Teaching Artist, mentor, resource creator and workshop facilitator. Her teaching practice and work as a composer/theatre maker inform each other, guided by a deep interest in ways to slow down and notice, how to be together, and how to set up contexts for music to be as meaningful as possible. Zoë was Lead Teaching Artist in Pedagogy and Practice with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s community orchestral program The Pizzicato Effect, and currently teaches cello at John Marsden’s innovative schools Candlebark and Alice Miller. Zoë is the recipient of the 2021 Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Of The Year Award for her work as co-director of Harmony In Strings, a highly acclaimed strings program nested within Sacred Heart Primary in Fitzroy, Victoria.
