Dr Tien Kieu MP, STEM Education Ambassador, Victorian State Government

Dr Kieu is proudly Victoria’s STEM Education Ambassador, Deputy Chair of the Legislative Council Legal and Social Issues Committee and Co-Chair of Victorian Parliamentarians for STEM.


Tien Kieu MP was born in Saigon, Vietnam where his family faced discrimination under the North Vietnamese regime, subsequently escaping by boat to find freedom. Finally settled in Australia, Tien worked as a labourer before attending the University of Queensland, and then the University of Edinburgh, where he received a doctorate in theoretical physics. He has worked at Oxford University, Melbourne University, CSIRO and Swinburne University. He has also been to Princeton, MIT, and as a Fulbright Scholar at Columbia University. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at Swinburne University.

STEM Education Across Victoria and Beyond

Dr Kieu, MP, will explore the importance of STEM education for the future of our economy and the role of government in promoting and supporting STEM education, including encouraging women and girls to take up STEM in school and as a career.
