Michael has a passion for understanding how young people learn to critically reflect on digital media and technologies. He spent thirteen years teaching high school Media and English before moving into academia.
Michael loves a good conversation about the impacts of media and technology on society and individuals and above all he loves working with young people to help them to become more aware of the power of the media.
He currently leads the Digital Inclusion and Participation program for QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre. He has been an advisor to Microsoft, Google, and Facebook on digital media and learning and media literacy.
Michael will speak at EduTECH on the topic of how to teach students to recognise ‘fake news’ and will challenge expectations about the how best to approach issues such as online misinformation.
