Maree Timms, Science & Maths Teacher, Galen Catholic College

In the 30 years Maree has been teaching she has never stopped pushing the boundaries and trying new things. She has been extremely lucky to have had many “teaching adventures”.

She first taught in a highly multicultural school in Melbourne, travelled overseas and worked in England at an outdoor education school and taught in Turkey, before returning home to Australia. Taking up teaching in a high school near Darwin she went and taught in a remote Aboriginal Community in Arnhem land in the Northern Territory. Loving it so much she stayed for 10 years.

Maree has now moved back to my hometown and this is where she's currently enjoying a VEX Robotics journey, with her colleague Brett Webber.  They are extremely lucky to have coached some passionate students who have been able to represent Australia at VEX World Championships in both 2018 and 2019 and are very proud to say "we won" the VEX Worlds 2020 Google Community Award. Each year 10 awards are given worldwide to VEX Programs that have made a difference in their communities, to be one of them and in a small regional area is pretty special.
