Dr Katina Zammit, Deputy Dean School of Education & President, Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA), University of Western Sydney

Katina is passionate about improving literacy outcomes for students from educationally disadvantaged and cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds. She works closely with her school-based colleagues on student engagement in literacy learning focusing on developing their multiple literacies and connections between teacher practices and students’ outcomes. She has published widely in the area of writing, multiliteracies and pedagogy, in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in numerous books, including the International Handbook of Semiotics and provides expert commentary  on literacy education.
