Karen is the principal of Hills Grammar School in Sydney, vice president and Life Member of English Teachers Association NSW, president of the Professional Teachers’ Council NSW (PTC), director of Australian Professional Teachers Association (APTA) and a Lab Champion for Learning Creates Australia. Karen was awarded the first International Teaching Fellowship by the Singapore Ministry of Education in 2011 and has been invited to present papers at numerous national and international conferences. She was awarded the NSW PTC award in 2009, the APTA award in 2014 for her contribution to the teaching profession and this year, the NSW PTC award for exceptional contribution to the teaching profession. In 2003, she was awarded the NSW Premier's Literary Scholarship. In 2016, she was awarded the NSW State Library Fellowship. In 2020, Karen received a leadership scholarship to travel to China and a Reading Australia’s fellowship. Karen is doing her PhD with a focus on how an effective professional learning model can enable teachers to foster global competency and academic excellence.
