John's work over the last 40 years is focused on prompting changing the role of the learner, the teacher and assessment in K-12 schooling and in promoting equity-based policy to provide access and opportunity with a goal of success for all. His recent research is in refugee education, moving away from traditional high-stakes assessments and transformational leadership in schools and tertiary education.
