Dr Christine Mathies, Academic Director Undergraduate Programs and Associate Professor in Marketing, UNSW Business School

Christine is the Academic Director Undergraduate Programs in the UNSW Business School. Her key responsibilities are the strategic leadership, development and management of all undergraduate programs. Most recently, she has led an extensive redesign of the Bachelor of Commerce, introducing a transdisciplinary integrated first year curriculum and the myBCom platform to enhance student learning and employability. These wide-ranging innovations have received multiple awards.
She holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Technology Sydney, and a Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching from UNSW. Her research area is services marketing, a unique opportunity to converge research expertise with advancing higher education.

MyBCom: a gamified student-led platform for holistic assessment

  • Introduce ‘myBCom’ as a framework and gamified online platform for the holistic development and assessment of professional skills from curricular and co-curricular opportunities in a Bachelor of Commerce. 
  • Solve the widespread problem of poor ‘soft’ skills in business graduates. 
  • Demonstrate how a visual dashboard and intuitive ‘point’ system allows students to track their progress in achieving program learning outcomes; choose how to address lesser strengths; and showcase achievements in digital portfolios.
