Qian Zhong received his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and his MBA from the Stern School of Business at New York University. He joined Google in January 2023 as the Subsea Quality Lead at Google Global Network and Infrastructure (GGN&I) where he is responsible for ensuring the quality of Google's subsea network. Prior to joining Google, Qian started his career in 1992 as a researcher at AT&T Bell Labs and then went on to have various leadership roles in the R&D, product management, and sales organizations at SubCom (previously known as AT&T SSI, Tyco Telecom). His earlier focus was in the area of optical fiber and cable development, and continued with system design and customer solutions. Qian then served as the head of APAC sales for SubCom for more than 12 years leading the development and execution of a number of key transpac projects in the industry. In his current role at Google, Qian focuses on all aspects of quality initiatives in subsea network construction, including new technology adaptation, manufacturing and installation quality, and provides support in the network O&M. Qian works closely with subsea vendors in all phases of the projects.
