Gabriele Olivieri is a PhD student in Geographical Studies at Sapienza University of Rome. He has published articles on the geopolitics of the sea, as well as contributions to De Agostini high school textbooks. He wrote a research thesis on the impact of fiber optic cables on underwater geopolitical environments, the result of on-site research at the Southampton Marine and Maritime Institute (SMMI), a center of excellence that works closely with the National Oceanographic Center (NOC). He is a member of the Geopolitics Group of the AGeI (Association of Italian Geographers), and collaborates with Ocean's & Cables in research on security issues for critical underwater infrastructures.
