Dr Benoit Kowalski is a French-born scientist who started his professional carrier in 1995 at Alcatel Research in Emmanuel Desurvire’s lab to work on the introduction of EDFA and EDFFA amplifiers in optical networks. He moved on to the France Telecom research centre (CNET) for 3 years in the frame of a PhD, to work and develop mono-mode lasers for DWDM applications. After a brief spell of network design activities at MCI Worldcom now Verizon, he bravely crossed the Channel in 2000 to relocate to London where he joined FLAG Telecom to occupy eventually the position of Director of Engineering and Design authority for projects like FA-1, FNAL, FALCON, HAWK and FEA upgrade. Curious of technologies developed by optical transmission suppliers, he joined Infinera in 2008 to be part of the team that introduced the Photonic Integrated Component (PIC) in subsea networks. He is with Nokia since 2018 working with ASN in Nokia Infrastructure.
