Flexibility vs. grid stability: striking the right balance for grid-friendly battery storage

• Analyze the trade-off between profit maximization through market flexibility and the technical requirements of grid stability in order to define the optimal operating point for large-scale battery storage systems.
• Explore regulatory frameworks and technical protocols governing the use of storage for frequency control and local grid support, without compromising economic attractiveness for operators.
• Identify innovative control strategies that enable storage resources to dynamically prioritize between market-based revenue streams and system-critical grid services, in order to strengthen the resilience of Switzerland’s energy infrastructure.
