Why Thailand?

• Thailand is getting serious about clean energy. Under the Alternative Energy Development Plan (AEDP), integrated into the Power Development Plan (PDP), 30% of energy will be generated by renewable energy sources by 2036.

• The Ministry of Energy plans a US$6.4 billion investment in smart grids to enhance energy supply, increase efficiency, strengthen grid resilience, and reduce carbon emissions.

• The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has announced plans to build 16 floating solar projects on 9 dams by 2037 including the commencement of commercial operations of the world’s largest hybrid floating solar at Sirindhorn Dam in Ubonratchathani province.

• Solar PV accounted for just 7% of installed generation capacity and 3% of generation in 2021. By 2035, it will account for almost 20%. That’s an almost three-fold increase.

But these ambitions are not without challenges, including a need for significant infrastructure upgrades and ensuring an attractive policy environment to attract investment.

Can you help Thailand move towards a more sustainable energy future? Then you need to join us at Solar & Storage Live Thailand 2024.
