Syed Malek Faisal Syed Mohamad is the Head of Renewable Energy Malaysia at Gentari, where he leads the development, delivery and growth of the company’s renewable energy portfolio in Malaysia. He is responsible for driving strategic partnerships, project execution and market expansion across Utility-scale and Commercial and Industrial (C&I) segments, supporting Malaysia’s energy transition ambitions.

Syed Malek began his renewable energy journey with PETRONAS in 2018, where he established PETRONAS New Energy to spearhead the Group’s initial ventures into renewable energy. Following the 
formation of Gentari in 2022 as PETRONAS’ independent clean energy arm, he continues to lead the renewable energy business in Malaysia, focusing on scalable solutions and long-term value creation.
Prior to his current role, Syed Malek served as Chief Executive Officer of COMOS, where he led initiatives to advance electric mobility in Malaysia. He also spent 17 years with PROTON in various leadership and technical roles, contributing across product development, strategy and operations. He holds a Master’s degree in Technology Policy from the University of Cambridge under the Khazanah–Cambridge Scholarship and graduated with First Class Honours in Mechatronics Engineering from King’s College London.
