Steven Heape CEng FIET FIHEEM is a Chartered Engineer and low-carbon infrastructure specialist working at the forefront of the UK’s energy transition. As part of the Carbon and Energy Fund team, he has contributed to the delivery of over £800 million of public-sector decarbonisation projects, including the UK’s first fully renewably heated hospital and the first deep-geothermal-heated NHS site. Steven combines technical expertise, commercial strategy and systems thinking to deliver scalable net-zero infrastructure and is Chair of the Sustainability Advisory Panel for IHEEM.
I have also put some thought to what might be insightful for your delegates and I think helping them understand the landscape and where thinking is moving in terms of leveraging solar power as an enabler to wider heat decarbonisation projects.
This session explores how solar is moving from a bolt-on technology to a strategic enabler of NHS decarbonisation. Drawing on real projects and national delivery experience, it will examine how solar deployment has accelerated across the NHS, what investment has been achieved, and how different delivery models — including on-site generation, private wire and sleeved power — are shaping future opportunities.
It will also look at how solar supports NHS net zero targets for 2032 and 2040, why boards increasingly see it as infrastructure rather than just sustainability, and how revenue-generating power strategies can help unlock wider estate decarbonisation, particularly heat.
The session will highlight lessons for developers and suppliers seeking to work effectively with the NHS and understand how to align solutions with its strategic priorities.
