Barnaby Wharton is Head of Flexibility and Grid at RenewableUK, where he leads strategy on the technologies and infrastructure needed to deliver a net zero power system. His work spans green hydrogen, long-duration storage, flexibility and electricity networks, shaping the market and regulatory frameworks that enable investment in clean energy. He sits on several government delivery boards, advises on system reform, and regularly represents the UK renewables industry in international forums. Barnaby has played a central role in expanding RenewableUK’s remit beyond wind into new sectors, building partnerships across government, regulators, developers and investors. He is a recognised industry voice, contributing at major conferences and in the media, with a particular focus on the opportunities and challenges of the energy transition. Prior to his current role, he headed RenewableUK’s policy and regulation team and worked at the CBI on energy, climate and market policy. He is passionate about accelerating the clean energy transition and building resilient, flexible systems for the future.
