After 11 years running energy management programs at some of South Africa’s largest companies, Bernhard joined the Western Cape Government in 2021. His responsibilities as a Deputy Director in the Energy team at the Department of Infrastructure focus on enablement in the energy space, including the provision of support to municipalities in areas such as energy procurement and wheeling. His training includes a B Eng (Mechanical) and an M Eng (Renewable energy), as well as energy management system, project finance and measurement & verification training
