Dr. Nermine Abdel Gelil Mohamed is currently an associate professor at MSA University in Egypt. She obtained her PhD degree from Japan as a recipient of the Japanese Government Doctoral Scholarship (Monbukagakusho). In searching for the link between academia and practice, she founded MSA Center of Earth Architecture in 2017. It aims to design and build affordable, socially responsible, environmentally-friendly and aesthetically appealing homes while offering hands-on training to students and professionals. Winner of several prestigious awards, and a Patent on interlocking compressed earth bricks, she was honored by President El-Sisi, The Prime Minister, The Minister of Higher Education, The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and The President of The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. She was also an official delegate in the Egyptian Pavilion in COP 28, 2023, Dubai. In 2023, Dr. Nermine won 1st place in the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects - small local projects category for her fully constructed project “Green Rural house in New Valley Governorate.” She won also 1st place in the Green Urbanism and Innovative Architecture for her design “The Ecofordable House: An Eco-Friendly Affordable Unit Built with Compressed Earth Bricks, Hybrid Roofs, and Palm Midribs.” In 2023, the fully-constructed Ecofordable House was shortlisted in THE MENA AWARDS (Times Higher Education - Middle East and North Africa Awards) in the category: “Outstanding Contribution to Environmental Leadership.”
