Ahsan Baig serves as the Chief Information Officer (CIO) at AC Transit, where he leads the agency’s strategic vision for information technology, digital transformation, and cybersecurity. Since joining AC Transit in 2017, Ahsan has played a pivotal role in modernizing the District’s IT infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity posture, and aligning technology investments with the agency’s core mission of delivering safe, reliable, and innovative public transportation. With more than two decades of experience in both the public and private sectors, Ahsan is recognized for building high-performing teams and delivering complex, mission-critical projects. Under his leadership, AC Transit has successfully implemented cutting-edge solutions in support of transit operations, customer experience, enterprise data management, and emergency preparedness. Prior to joining AC Transit, Ahsan spent 14 years with the City of Oakland, where he held several leadership roles including Deputy CIO, Interim CIO, and IT Division Manager. His work there included overseeing 911 public safety systems, radio communications infrastructure, and other vital services that directly supported citywide emergency response and public safety. Ahsan also brings significant experience from the private sector, having served in senior IT roles at companies such as Parsons Brinckerhoff, MetaTV, WorldGate Communications, MFS WorldCom, and Raytheon. His work on transportation technologies included collaboration on major regional initiatives such as the 511-traveler information system and FasTrak electronic toll collection for Caltrans and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC). Ahsan holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in physics from the University of Karachi, and a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from City College, City University of New York (CUNY). He is actively involved in several professional associations, including APTA, APCO, IEEE, IACP, and PMI, and has served various advisory boards focused on public safety communications and intelligent transportation systems.
