Metrail Construction Ltd is a leading infrastructure repair and maintenance business operating across the UK. The company is focussed on the repair and maintenance of structures on Britain’s transport infrastructure, specifically focussed on concrete repairs, concrete slab stabilisation, bridge deck waterproofing and the installation and replacement of bridge deck joints.

National Highways is a key client for Metrail with its specialist services delivered both directly and through some of the UK’s leading Tier 1 contractors and joint ventures such as A One +, Balfour Beatty, Costain, F M Conway and Kier. Metrail is currently working in four areas directly for National Highways under their Scheme Delivery Framework to deliver waterproofing and expansion joints.

Metrail has introduced an innovative technique to the UK market for concrete slab stabilisation developed on the German autobahn network which utilises a unique resin product developed by Minova. In 2022 Metrail successfully completed the stabilisation of a 5km concrete section of the M180 in Yorkshire for National Highways. The resin is designed for longevity and is expected extend the life of the motorway by 10 years or more.

Metrail has become the specialist contactor of choice for working on high profile structures such as Tinsley Viaduct on the M1 near Sheffield, Putney Bridge, Rochester Bridge and on London Bridge where Metrail has waterproofed over 10,000 sq. metres of bridge deck and associated concrete repairs.

The business was established in 2007 and has grown substantially under the leadership of Managing Director, Martyn Sherwood, who has over 20 years of experience in the sector. The company has its head office in Hailsham near Eastbourne and a regional office and depot in Yorkshire. It is a GCP (formerly Stirling Lloyd) approved contractor, licensed to apply and install the complete range of GCP’s waterproofing and expansion joint products. GCP provide technical back-up and support when needed. Metrail is a member of the Bridge Joint Association.

As a specialist contractor, customers rely heavily on the Metrail capability to deliver work on time and on a budget so that the overall contract programme is maintained. Having a core team of experienced personnel on site and in the office is a key driver for success. Training and skills accreditation play an important role in the business to ensure safe working practices and quality workmanship.
