Solar is a significant part of Vietnam's renewable energy strategy. State-owned utilities are investing in utility scale floating solar projects, the government is offering generous incentives for rooftop solar and large energy users are adopting onsite solar at an increasing rate.

The Vietnamese government has adopted the Power Development Plan 8 (“PDP8”), showing a very strong commitment towards decarbonisation by 2050.

The PDP8 puts a high emphasis on building a smart grid system that can integrate and safely operate large-scale renewable energy installations.

Solar power will become the dominant energy source in Vietnam’s energy mix in 2050 when the Vietnamese economy is set to be decarbonised.

Điện mặt trời hiện đang trở thành trụ cột chiến lược trong phát triển năng lượng tái tạo tại Việt Nam, hướng tới mục tiêu trung hòa carbon. Các doanh nghiệp đang đẩy mạnh đầu tư vào chuyển dịch năng lượng và triển khai các giải pháp điện mặt trời để đạt được phát triển bền vững và giảm chi phí năng lượng.

Điện mặt trời mái nhà, vốn phát triển mạnh mẽ nhờ chính sách ưu đãi, nay chuẩn bị bước chuyển mình mạnh mẽ với cơ chế mua bán điện trực tiếp (DPPA). Khung pháp lý mới mở ra cơ hội lớn cho khu vực tư nhân tham gia sâu rộng hơn. Những nỗ lực này khẳng định cam kết của Việt Nam trong việc thúc đẩy đổi mới sáng tạo và hợp tác để thực hiện thành công chuyển dịch năng lượng bền vững.

Quy hoạch điện VIII đặt trọng tâm vào việc phát triển cơ sở hạ tầng để tích hợp và quản lý hiệu quả các dự án năng lượng tái tạo quy mô lớn. Các chiến lược trong Quy hoạch hướng đến việc củng cố ổn định lưới điện, tối ưu hóa các giải pháp lưu trữ năng lượng, đồng thời thúc đẩy quá trình chuyển đổi sang mô hình năng lượng bền vững và ít carbon.

Năng lượng mặt trời dự kiến sẽ trở thành nguồn năng lượng chủ đạo trong cơ cấu năng lượng của Việt Nam vào năm 2050 khi đất nước tiến tới mục tiêu giảm phát thải carbon. Theo số liệu từ Quy hoạch điện VIII, tiềm năng điện mặt trời của Việt Nam khoảng 963.000 MW, trong đó mặt đất khoảng 837.400 MW, mặt nước khoảng 77.400 MW và mái nhà khoảng 48.200 MW.
