Alfie Shepherd | Climate Officer
Blackpool Council

Alfie Shepherd, Climate Officer, Blackpool Council

I am an early career sustainability professional working in local government for Blackpool Council. I became interested in sustainability and climate change through studying Geography at school, which later inspired me to study the subject at Lancaster University, achieving a First-Class degree and later a Distinction in my Master’s by Research in Environmental Science. As the council’s Climate Officer, I am involved in various climate mitigation projects, including the rollout of electric vehicle infrastructure (EVI) across Blackpool. In my current role working on the EV team, I have gained over two years of hands-on experience working on EVI rollout. This has included working on the LEVI project, strategically selecting sites and working with the appointed chargepoint operator. I have also played a key role in developing a trial of cross pavement solutions in Blackpool, from policy design to delivery. At this conference, I hope to share how Blackpool Council has approached EVI rollout, with insights into how we have addressed challenges through a blended model of charging hubs and on-street solutions.
