Pitso Sekhoto, Middle Manager-Substation Automation Integration, Eskom

Pitso Sekhoto is a dynamic and award-winning South African engineer, widely recognized for his leadership, technical expertise, and commitment to empowering the next generation in STEM disciplines. Pitso currently serves as a middle manager at Eskom Holdings, focusing on Substation Automation Integration, grid modernization, and the integration of renewable energy systems. He also holds key roles as South Africa's CIGRE D2 and B5 Secretariat, working on Information Systems, Telecommunications, Cybersecurity (D2) and Protection and Automation (B5). In 2025, Pitso was appointed as a Council Member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) for the 7th Term (2025–2029), and elected Deputy Chairperson of the SAIEE Gauteng Centre, demonstrating his continued rise as a strategic leader in the engineering profession. In 2024, he was named Eskom Manager of the Year, marking a major milestone in his first year as a middle manager. That same year, he received the prestigious SAIEE Young Achiever’s Award for his impactful contributions to the engineering community. In 2023, Pitso was honored with the Eskom Manager’s Award for Young Professional of the Year and was recognized as a Rising Star Awards Finalist, celebrating his outstanding contributions to the energy sector. That year, he was also appointed Chairperson of the AFSEC Young Professionals (YP), where he led initiatives promoting youth and women in standardization across the continent. In 2022, Pitso earned global recognition by winning the IEC Young Professional Essay Competition and representing South Africa at the IEC Young Professionals Programme in San Francisco, where he contributed to international standards development. In 2012, while studying at the University of Cape Town, he was part of the Engineering and the Built Environment Student Council, which received the Team of the Year Award. His early accolades include receiving a Certificate of Excellent Performance in Grade 12 from the Mafube Municipality Mayoral Awards in 2008, and the Santam Young Entrepreneurs Performing Award in 2005. Beyond his technical roles, Pitso is a passionate advocate for youth development, mentorship, diversity, and inclusion in engineering. He continues to play an active role in national and international platforms, driving initiatives that shape the future of engineering in South Africa and beyond.
