After training as an IT specialist for application development, Michael Mosel worked a short time in the computer games industry as a scripter and in quality assurance. After studying media studies, computer science and psychology, he was employed as a research assistant at various universities in the field of media studies and focused mainly on game studies in his teaching and research. As part of this work, he conducted several workshops and courses for teachers and student teachers, and the use of computer games in university teaching and research was and is one of his main areas of activity. He recently completed his doctorate on game design patterns and genres and is currently head of the media center at Marburg University Library.
