Terry Hartmann leads the business for Cognitec (the face recognition company) in Asia Pacific. He is an internationally recognized authority in the identity industry, and led the global government effort post 9/11 to design and publish international standards for electronic passports and biometrics recognition. His opinion, insight and counsel is regularly sought by government and commercial organizations the world over, and he has spoken at over 80 conferences internationally on identity and security matters. Terry served for 10 years on the Board of Directors for the Biometrics Institute; and is on the Planet Biometrics Expert Advisory Panel.
Terry lived in the USA from 2008–2016 where he held the post of VP for Unisys Global Transportation Sales & Solutions in North America. Earlier he led the company’s Industry Applications worldwide including People Identity; Transportation; Financial Services; Public Safety & Justice; Cybersecurity; Physical Security; and Communications Solutions.
In 2004–2007, Terry developed and implemented the Unisys identity security strategy, with particular emphasis on growing the trusted identity solutions and border security program. He led the pursuit teams that won several major Unisys projects including Mexico National ID, the world’s first multi-modal iris/finger/face biometrics national ID project, UK Passports face, and biometrics solutions for the Australian Government.
In 2013, Terry received the ID World ID Leadership Award assigned to outstanding members of the ID community who have distinguished themselves during the previous 12 months for commitment, leadership, creativity and innovation.
Terry has a bachelor’s degree from the Australian National University, specializing in honors-level Computer Science and Pure Math.
