Takehiko Yamaji, Deputy Director, East Japan Railway Company, Singapore

Takehiko YAMAJI currently serves as Deputy Director of the International Affairs Headquarters and Singapore Representative of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). A railway engineer with nearly 20 years of experience, he has built his career in track maintenance, inspection, contract management, and infrastructure governance within one of the world’s most advanced railway systems. Based in Singapore since 2023, Mr. Yamaji has been responsible for promoting international technical cooperation and developing collaborative projects with railway operators across Southeast Asia and Oceania. He has led feasibility studies, coordinated technical exchanges, and strengthened strategic partnerships to expand JR East’s overseas engagement in railway maintenance and asset management. Prior to his international assignment, he held several senior operational and headquarters positions within JR East. As Head of the Kashiwazaki Track Maintenance Office, he oversaw field maintenance operations, safety management, and workforce development. At headquarters, he contributed to the revision of track work contract regulations and promoted the systematisation of maintenance processes, including improvements to track closure management systems. Earlier in his career, he supervised track inspection planning and managed outsourced maintenance contracts, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance across multiple maintenance territories. Through his combined experience in field operations, regulatory development, and international collaboration, Mr. Yamaji brings both practical engineering expertise and strategic management capability to railway infrastructure projects worldwide.
