Karen Lai | Director of Business Control, Global Operations

Karen is currently the Director, Business Control of Global Operations at ASM. She manages full suite of management reporting & analysis, and financial planning for Global Operations. She is one of the core team members of Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) to drive female talent initiatives and establish a women’s community in order to help the Company to reach its target of 20% female employees by 2025. Karen has over 20 years of experience in finance & accounting with Fortune 500 companies in Singapore. She started her career as an external auditor with Deloitte & Touche and gradually moved on to commercial and business management roles in Siemens, General Electric, Nike, Electrolux, Walt Disney and Hoya. From inventory & costing, general accounting, controllership, financial & planning analysis, commercial finance and progressively taking bigger regional profit & loss responsibility in business units from different industries. In her previous role as CFO, Asia Pacific at Hoya Vision Care, Karen worked closely with Asia Pacific President and various Asia Pacific functions to identify and execute strategic initiatives that drove the growth and transformation of the region, initiate and drive changes needed to ensure long- and short-term business targets are achieved. She has hands-on experience in leading finance operations set-up, process improvement projects, and driving change management & finance transformation. She enjoys challenges and thrives in diverse, multi-cultural, fast paced and dynamic environment. Karen obtained Bachelor of Science (Accounting) from the University of Oregon. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a member of the Chartered Global Management Accountants (CGMA). She is also Six Sigma Green Belt Certified.
