Hi, I’m Jennifer Tomagan, an accounting professional with over 15 years of experience, specializing in both traditional bookkeeping and cloud-based accounting within the Singapore market. I started out in 2010 as an internal accountant and admin for a renovation and design firm. After a couple of years, I wanted to grow further, so I moved into outsourced accounting, working closely with small and medium-sized businesses as a bookkeeper. My day-to-day included manually entering sales and supplier invoices, preparing payment vouchers and cheques, clearing bank reconciliations, and adjusting for stale cheques. It was definitely challenging — especially keeping up with Singapore tax compliance — and I often found myself working overtime to meet deadlines. But I really enjoyed the work and learned so much along the way. Over time, I’ve worked with a range of accounting systems — UBS, MYOB, QuickBooks Desktop, and eventually cloud-based platforms like QuickBooks Online and Xero. I still remember our first Xero training in 2018 at their Amoy Street office — that was a turning point for me, and I’ve been hooked on digital accounting ever since. In 2021, I moved back to the Philippines for family reasons and wasn’t sure what job opportunities I’d find during the pandemic. Luckily, I joined Harvest Accounting as a Manager. We started as a small team of 8, and now we’re a fully remote team of 21 — working 100% remotely ever since! My current role involves supporting our bookkeepers, assisting with annual report reviews, training staff on accounting and tax requirements, streamlining workflows, and keeping our remote team connected and aligned. Using Xero and its integrated tools has made generating monthly reports so much easier. Going paperless has helped us stay organized and sped up GST and tax submissions — no more piles of paperwork! Storing supporting documents for tax compliance is now simpler, clutter-free, and everything gets done quicker and more accurately. One of the best things about moving to cloud accounting is the flexibility to work from home. It saves so much time and energy — especially with the crazy traffic and the fact that our team members are scattered across different parts of the Philippines, sometimes even across islands. Even though we’re geographically apart, our team feels closer and more connected than ever because we all feel productive and enjoy a better work-life balance. Shifting from manual bookkeeping to fully cloud-based operations has truly been life-changing — both professionally and personally.
