Sophia N Karagiannis, Professor of Translational Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy, King's College London

Sophia N. Karagiannis is a distinguished Professor of Translational Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy at King’s College London. She has a strong background in translational B‑cell and cancer immunology, with academic and biotechnology experience across the UK and USA. She leads a cancer antibody discovery team focused on dissecting the crosstalk between human immunity and solid tumours, with particular emphasis on understanding how antibody isotype influences therapeutic efficacy. The Karagiannis group studies cancer patient‑derived B cells and their expressed antibodies; antibody‑engaging immune effector cells, including monocytes, macrophages, and basophils; and the engineering of antibodies of different isotypes, Fc‑optimised antibodies, and antibody–drug conjugates (ADCs). Her group was the first to design and translate IgE‑class antibodies from concept through to clinical testing and commercialisation. Professor Karagiannis is the author of several patents in antibody technologies and is the founder of Epsilogen Ltd, the world’s first immuno‑oncology company dedicated to the development of IgE‑based cancer immunotherapies. She is a founding member and elected Chair of the AllergoOncology Working Group of the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), which focuses on the interface between Th2 immunity, allergy, IgE, and cancer, and EAACI Research Fellow in 2025.
