Alison is a pharmacologist with a PhD in biochemistry. Her long career includes significant academic and regulatory experience, the latter initially at the Medicines Control Agency and then in senior roles within the Vigilance and Risk Management of Medicine Group at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). In addition she was Head of Cellular, Developmental and Physiological Sciences at the Wellcome Trust and most recently an Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund Director at UK Research and Innovation. As the Chief Safety Officer at the MHRA, she leads the work of the agency to ensure the safety of medicines and devices that reach the UK public and health service.  Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency
