Dr. Lindsey Shields the Deputy Director of PATH’s Epidemic Preparedness and Response Program.  She is a board-certified preventive medicine veterinarian with more than 13 years’ experience in strengthening infectious disease surveillance systems, supporting outbreak response, and implementing the One Health approach globally.  With experience living and working in more than 15 countries, Dr. Shields now leads a portfolio of projects for PATH ranging from assessments for operationalizing one health to implementing event-based surveillance.   Dr. Shields also served as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer in the CDC’s Division of Foodborne, Waterborne, and Environmental Diseases on the Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch where she led outbreak response teams for cholera, botulism, Ebola, and typhoid fever in both international and domestic settings.  Early in her career, Dr. Shields worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations based in Italy and Ethiopia, where she provided direct assistance to member countries for controlling outbreaks of disease in wildlife and livestock and supported the development of early warning systems for foodborne diseases in East Africa.  She currently serves on the EIS Alumni Association Executive Committee and is a member of  the ASTMH.  Dr. Shields completed her DVM at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine where she focused on epidemiology and zoonotic disease transmission.
