He has made several important contributions to the early scientific understanding of HIV infection, and has become a key public figure in the fight against COVID-19.
Mike Ryan , Executive Director of WHO Health Emergencies Programme, World Health Organization
Mike is currently leading the WHO's emergency response efforts, and is a former surgeon and epidemiologist specialising in infectious disease and public health.
He was a Senior Advisor on the Polio eradication for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, and was an Operational Coordinator of the WHO's response to the SARS outbreak.
Paula Annunziato , VP and Therapeutic Area Head, Vaccines Clinical Research Merck Research Labs
During her time at Merck Research Labs, Paula has been responsible for leading the Zostavax (shingles) and Gardasil (HPV) vaccine teams, as well as the paediatric and adult vaccine sections.
She has a wealth of experience running vaccine teams and developing key vaccines, even in her prior role as Associate Professor of Clinical Paediatrics at Columbia University, where she worked on the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus.

Rino led the development of the first recombinant bacterial vaccine against pertussis, the adjuvanted influenza vaccines, and the conjugate vaccine against meningococcal-C disease.

Henry co-founded Sorrento Therapeutics in 2006, with an aim to develop therapeutic approaches for cancer.
