Internet Exchange Point (IXP): Partnerships and Strategy

Internet Exchange Points (IXPs) are facilities where local ISPs, transport networks, content networks, cloud services, education networks, and others exchange data traffic.  They exist predominantly in major metros like New York, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, and Seattle.  But did you know that 14 states don’t have an IXP at all?  This negatively impacts wholesale pricing, network resiliency, and importantly, latency—an aspect of the digital divide that is only widening as applications and services are being developed for ultra-low-latency connections in large cities.  Learn how non-profits, universities, and rural middle-mile and last-mile networks are collaborating to change the status quo and create neutral internet hubs in markets where they’ve never existed before.
