Engaging the Global Health Ecosystem to invest in RWD/RWE to facilitate Translational Medicine and Drug Development Decision Making

RWE
  • Drug and Vaccine response in the developing world is not easily generalized as patient and population-specific factors are known to impact efficacy. A quantitative science (QS) approach informed by RWD and tailored to specific target populations is essential in the quest to accelerate POC.
  • Both the nature and origin of existing RWD sources available to support Global Health investigation is very different from those that serve the developed world. There are limited fee-for service or HER options and most sources are sponsored at the country-level with support from philanthropic organizations such as the World Bank, WHO and the Gates Foundation. Natural history disease registries are lacking and while there is a growing appreciation for the creation of open access biobanks where genomic, biomarker and tissue sample data can be shared, these too are lacking.
  • The Global health RWD ecosystem will be discussed and some preliminary efforts to incorporate RWD for global health initiatives focused in TB drug and vaccine development and maternal neonatal health sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute will presented as early examples.

A new compound platform for enhanced access to chemical space for screening

ANALYTICS PLATFORMS
Over the last years, the size of commercially available chemical space (with pharmaceutical relevance) has rapidly increased. Several providers today are offering catalogs consisting of several hundred million screening compounds. We built a new compound platform to enable a browsing, searching, selecting, and ordering of compound sets from these libraries. The platform offers these capabilities by standardizing and preprocessing all molecules, calculating relevant properties, and enabling access to these libraries by combining fast structure-based search with property and meta-data filters. In addition, the platform offers tools for advanced analytics and visualisation of chemical space for assessing and comparing chemical libraries.

#WeAreNotWaiting for better diabetes care

DIGITAL HEALTH
  • When the unmet need in type 1 diabetes became too much to bear, a loose affiliation of patients turned to consumer technology, DIY, and each other to build their own artificial pancreas systems.
  • Open source health is low cost, moving into the mainstream, and building capabilities to enable marketing authorisation. Are there implications for pharma?

Bridging the Gap Between Biology and Technology

ANALYTICS PLATFORMS
1. The biggest challenge for Data Science in biotech is the gap between people who know what questions to ask (biologists) and those able to interrogate data (technologists).2. Designing tools for non-technical users, and training technologists to drive toward end result as part of cross-functional teams can bridge this gap.3. I’ll demonstrate tools and techniques we have implemented at Vincere to accelerate each step of the drug discovery process.
