Dr. Axel Sondermann is the Executive Director of Consulting and member of DB E.C.O. Group’s Executive Committee with over 30 years of professional experience. Before joining DB Engineering & Consulting, he held management positions at companies such as Kearny in Dubai and Berlin as well as at Transdev Germany, where he was Head of Business Unit and CEO.

His academic journey includes a Double-Diploma and PhD in Business Administration, specializing in logistics, marketing and international management, attained from institutions such as the University of Mannheim, ESSEC (Paris) and the European Business School. He also completed a bank apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank in Germany. Throughout his career, he has managed significant projects, including the implementation of Global Shadow operator projects in various locations such as Berlin, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Mexico and the Baltic States. He led a group of multiple regional railway operating companies in Germany and managed large train operation and maintenance service contracts.

Additionally, he directed a program to establish a comprehensive metropolitan mobility network in Saudi Arabia and developed an Operational Expenditure (OPEX) and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) model for procurement and benchmarking on a global scale. He created shared services for regional rail companies in Germany and heading the business development efforts for the largest German urban transport group in urban mobility business. Furthermore, he managed the procurement process of a large passenger transportation fleet in Kazakhstan and developed and implemented a strategy for a global mobility consultancy, focusing on Germany and international markets. His proficiency in German, English and French, along with his global perspective and strategic skills, make him a valuable contributor in the transportation sector.
